Kingston Chamber Music Festival’s 36th Season Promises Fresh, Lively Performances
The Kingston Chamber Music Festival (KCMF) breathes new life into classical music with its 36th season, running from July 24 through August 4. Held at Edwards Hall at the University of Rhode Island, the festival features six concerts showcasing a diverse repertoire from the 1700s to the 2000s.
Artistic director Natalie Zhu highlights the unique challenge KCMF presents to musicians. “Many of them are playing together for the first time, learning repertoire they have never played before,” she says. This year’s lineup includes both first-time collaborations and musicians from larger orchestras enjoying a more intimate setting.
A standout event is the July 28 concert, which Zhu describes as a musical journey around the Mediterranean, featuring composers from Greece, Israel, Italy, France, and Turkey. Audiences can also expect novel pairings, such as classical guitarist Adam Levin and mandolinist Jacob Reuven performing as Duo Mantar. The festival will feature works by renowned composers like Bach, Mozart, and Schubert, alongside contemporary pieces by Valerie Coleman and Jessie Montgomery.
Audience members will also be invited to experience open rehearsals on July 27 and August 3, along with a Meet the Artist series, giving the community a chance to engage with the performers in a meaningful way. Says Zhu, “These musicians play on some of the biggest, most prestigious stages around the world, but they tell us: there’s no place like Kingston!” Find tickets and concert details at KingstonChamberMusic.org.
