The Artistry of Glassblowing Comes to Life June 15 at Blackstone River Glass Center
To anyone who has ever witnessed the artistry of glass blowing firsthand, the creation of beautiful pieces is a performance in itself. On Saturday, June 15, Blackstone River Glass Center (BRGC) puts on a show with their Demo Party and Glass Theatre, an opportunity to not only see glass blowing and lampworking by resident artists but also revel in the official start of summer.
An art education center focusing on teaching new and seasoned glass artisans alike, BRGC’s 20,000-square-foot studio hosts classes in glass blowing, slumping and fusing techniques, flameworking, and more. Along with inviting kids and adults – including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, homeschool students, and veterans – to participate in group classes, the studio also serves as an event space for team-building events and private parties.
“Our goal at Blackstone River Glass is to enrich the community by teaching multiple disciplines in glass art,” says artist Becca Zhukov. “We welcome everyone to experience the thrill of working with glass and offer a safe and loving environment for all.” The studio is also available to rent to professionals to create their own art. Also on site is Providence Art Glass, Blackstone River Glass's lighting business. Clients can visit the studio showroom and receive free consultations as well as purchase off-the-shelf lamps, pendant lights, and chandeliers.
See for yourself what BRGC is all about at the Demo Party, and be enchanted by guest artist Ian Silvia creating the human form out of solid glass, experience walk-in fusing and flameworking workshops at a discounted fee, and arrive early to receive a glass swag bag. Outside, there will be fire-dancing performances by Samantha Pescarino and Aerial Silks by Acacia Way along the Blackstone River, with RI Cruisin’ Cocktails providing fancy bevvies to toast the summer solstice. “Cap off the evening with dancing on the river, sitting by our fire pit, and howling at the moon!”
Make a day of it by joining Blackstone Valley Tourism Council’s River Day, also on June 15, and visit BlackStoneRiverGlass.com and ProvidenceArtGlass.com to learn more about their offerings.
